Volcanoes Today, 22 Jan 2016: Zhupanovsky Volcano

Zhupanovsky (Kamchatka, Russia): KVERT reported an explosion occurred on 19 January at 16:36 (local time) and generated an ash plume that rose to altitudes of 7-8 km (23,000-26,200 ft) a.s.l. and drifted 20 km east.
The Aviation Color Code was raised to Orange (the second highest on a four-color scale). (from Smithsonian / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report 13-19 January 2016)
